Austria House

Where it all began. Built in 2010 for the Winter Olympics, this landmark project became the first registered Passive House in Canada. Originally used to host the Austrian Olympic Committee, it now serves as a cross-country ski lodge, continuing its life as a welcoming, high-comfort building in a demanding climate.

As the world watched the first “Green Olympics,” the project used that global stage to introduce the Passive House Standard to a broader audience, proving that rigorous energy performance and a calm interior environment can coexist with public-facing architecture. For Optiwin, it remains a reference point for what disciplined envelope design can achieve when comfort, efficiency, and long-term durability are treated as one integrated goal.
